All right, so you know, I decided to make this blog because I actually don’t believe that doing lots of deep inner work and really having personal or self development lead the way and pave the way for you as a leader needs to be something that takes up tons and tons and tons of time.
A lot of the people who come into Sorcerer School come in with like – I see the busiest schedules- you know people who are on planes at all crazy hours, people who’ve got multiple children that they’re raising while they are running sometimes multiple businesses, you know, leading these very high powered roles- And to say I don’t have time can sometimes be a very real thing. Right?
And I actually do not believe that developing a deep practice of self development means meditating for hours a day or going to live on a literal or proverbial mountain top to be able to go deep.
Going deep – the thing is is that that depth that you are craving in leadership and in personal development comes from within yourself, right? So the simplest, simplest, simplest strategy, this first two simple pieces of this strategy is to develop and commit to some sort of a practice of feeling and going deeper into your own presence.
Now, yeah, there are methods that will lead you there and I am not anti meditation.
I actually love meditation.
And that said you could commit as much to a simple practice every day to get there as you could to an ongoing commitment to live and go deeper into your own presence within the self.
It could be feeling yourself as more present when you’re in a conversation with somebody.
It could be that you’re in transition, you know, going from one meeting to another and you bring yourself back into your own body.
So step number one of two very simple aspects of this process is to develop some sort of a commitment to a deeper presence inside of yourself.
Because again, where you really want to go and going deep as a leader, it starts from within.
Depth can only ever exist when you hold it within yourself.
So develop a simple practice to presence within yourself.
Number two is to commit to doing something daily that you are walking in the question of in your own development.
So that might look like, let’s say that you’re focusing on communication and let’s say the thing you you’re doing in step number one is, is practicing more presence.
When you’re communicating with someone, can you also be walking in the question of, and the noticing of, how they are acting in your communication, like how the other person is showing up and responding to your communication.
Because by witnessing and watching their response, for example, you’re going to learn a lot about what’s going on in your own presence as a communicator.
So, piece number two of this simple strategy is to choose something that you can be paying attention to every single day.
And you may choose this thing for a week at a time, a few days at a time, a few months at a time until you’ve gotten much deeper into the inquiry of it and the development of it.
Choose something that you can do every single day to go deeper into your own inquiry and help yourself develop as a leader.
So let’s recap those two simple steps to have a practice of self development when you don’t have any time to do so.
Step number one is to find a practice of staying connected to yourself throughout the day, every single day.
And step number two is to commit to something that you can walk in the inquiry up throughout your day every day that will help you transform.
