How To Thrive As A Leader In The Face Of Ever-Increasing Pressure…

So it’s a new year. We’ve let go of 2015, and welcomed in a whole new year. Excitement and perhaps a bit of uncertainty brew as the 365 days ahead begin to show themselves.

If you’re like me, and did a review of what 2015 was like, you’ll notice that a lot can happen in a year. It can transform not only the trajectory of your life, but drastically alter your perceptions if you allow it.

But how do you really allow it?

The new year that awaits you is BIGGER than just a few “new year’s resolutions” and another year of “trying”.

And, as much I highly recommend setting intentions for the year to come (in fact, one of my 2016 intentions was to be more intentional about everything I do this year), you also know that the year ahead requires MORE OF YOU than some intentions that trust Spirit will have handled.

What this year requires of you, is for you to step INTO ITS ENERGY.

And that’s not just some woo-woo pondering that I’m presenting to you. It’s something I’ve been noticing in business strategy and in all of the fun stuff I’m creating in my life — and it’s what’s been getting things done — far more than the actual “doing”.

So how do you step into the energy of the new year that awaits you?

Here are a few tools for you to access the energy of expansion that awaits you in 2016:

  1. Let go of what’s no longer serving you.
For most of us, 2015 ended with lots of cleansing and releasing of what was no longer serving us. As you release old habits and mindsets that are no longer serving you, you make room for what is This applies across the board in your life: business/work, your relationships, your self-care, the structure of your lifestyle, etc. So let the wind that was blowing out and away what no longer served you in the previous year carry you into the new energies of the coming year. Perhaps it has some great ideas of what’s good for you?
  1. Convey the feeling of what is important to you in the moment, not just the words.
Let me give you an example. Earlier today I noticed a disconnect in something that was happening on the Modern Day Sorcerer team. We’ve been redefining roles in preparation for growth in 2016, and I noticed some miscommunication that was leading to some crossover and confusion around who was doing what (leading to things not getting done). When I got on the phone with one of my team members, I instantly realized it wasn’t about what anyone was doing or not doing. It was about an energy that needed to be addressed. The miscommunication wasn’t being caused by words, but by an energy that was waiting to be addressed. The business was asking for a new energy to be stepped into, and we were operating out of old agreements we had made instead of aligning ourselves with the new. Once I named what I was feeling and it was heard, it was as if both of us had nothing left to say. We found ourselves fumbling for words to try to say what was going to change — when we realized that it already had because we had stepped into the new energy — so the change had already taken place.
  1. Grieve the old.
When we’re letting go of the old to step into the new, we sometimes forget that that means a loss, as much as it means joyful new beginnings. If you don’t allow yourself to feel the grief of what you’ll have to let go of to step into your new beginnings, the grief will fester unattended, leaving you feeling like there’s something in the way of all of the magic that awaits you. Grieve the loss of the old if you want to receive all of the new.
  1. Honor the simplicity of the magic that awaits you.
Everything we want to create – our visions, our calling, freedom, adventure, abundance, love, aliveness – whatever it is, is there waiting for you. As we welcome in a new year, we’re welcoming in new levels of ease in choosing what’s been choosing us. It’s that simple. So once you’ve grieved the loss of what was, all you have to do to claim the magic of what’s new is step into it. Treat it like it’s literally waiting on your doorstep, just open the door and step into it.

Now, sit for a moment and imagine what all of this means for you. Applying everything I said above involves an ability to sit in stillness — to honor the feelings going on within you more than the thoughts.

You may think you don’t have time to do so, as there’s a whole new year awaiting you, and to create the empire of awesome you’re going to create this year requires you to get on it! While that’s very true, at the same time, that very same empire is asking you to sit inside of the new energy of the year. IT put it there to support you in your expansion.

So stop and open yourself to what’s new.

And guess what? These very same steps can be applied whenever you feel a need for a shift in energy – not just at the start of a new year!
